HERE is a glimpse behind the curtain of Hay-on-Wye’s new cinema.

Brook Street Cinema, adjoining Booth’s Bookshop, will open on May 25 for the inaugural Hay Film School Weekend.

The 50-seater single-screen theatre will start showing new releases alongside world cinema and classics a few weeks later.

The first movie being screened at Brook Street will be Hay on Film, a celebration of the art and craft of film making.

It has been chosen by local cinematographer Alan Trow, who runs the film school and is behind the book town’s first ever mini-film festival. The three-day festival will feature workshops and talks with leading film makers, from a question-and-answer session with Revel Guest, the locally-based executive producer of Steven Speilberg’s recent hit War Horse to a script-writing workshop with Withnail & I and The Rum Diary writer Bruce Robinson.

The cinema will also be in use during the Hay Festival from May 31 to June 10.
