Deadline looms for consultation on cuts to councillor numbers
10:52am Monday 16th April 2012 in News
TIME is running out for a say on the future of Herefordshire Council.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England is asking the county’s electorate if four members should be cut from the council’s current make-up - leaving 54.
The consultation is the first part of an electoral review which will also consider changes to the number, names and boundaries of all the council’s wards.
Boundary Commission chair Max Caller said: “This public consultation is the first, but very important, part of our review of the electoral arrangements of the council. Once we’ve taken a view on the number of councillors for Herefordshire, we will redraw ward boundaries to accommodate those elected members and we’ll be asking local people to have their say during that process as well.”
The consultation closes on May 8 with final recommendations due in Spring 2013 in time for the 2015 council elections.
