Businesses asked to do their bit for road safety

BUSINESS leaders in Herefordshire are being urged to help reduce road casualties in the county - and increase their profits at the same time.

Last year 879 people in Herefordshire were killed, seriously injured or slightly hurt in road crashes. There were 17 deaths and 130 serious injuries.

Herefordshire Council is now urging all company directors and business managers responsible for health and safety, human resources, and fleet vehicles or staff who drive as part of their work, to a one-day event on managing occupational road risk at The Courtyard Theatre, on Friday, November 3, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Leading road safety professionals will be there, with experts from insurance, police, and Government transport advisors.

Ann Mann, road safety officer with Herefordshire Council, said: "Managing occupational road risk is not driver training. It is about helping businesses drive profits up and make a contribution to the reduction of casualties on the roads of Herefordshire."

The aims are to give managers and their drivers the chance to consider the problems and risks and come up with practical solutions.
