A CHIP pan fire caused severe damage to the kitchen of a Hereford flat.
The Fire Service is warning residents to keep an eye on their cooking after being called to the Belmont Road flat around 8.30pm last night.
Those living in the ground floor flat called the emergency services after a smoke alarm alerted them.
No-one was injured but along with the kitchen damage there was smoke logging in the rest of the flat.
“Thankfully there was a working smoke alarm in the property which alerted the occupants and allowed them to escape unharmed from the fire,” said Watch Commander Neil Fowler.
“This incident certainly illustrates just how important it is to have a smoke alarm fitted in the home and to test it regularly.
“We’d also like to use this fire as a reminder for people never to leave their cooking unattended.“
