BOWLING - Eardisland bowling club has been seen plenty of action last week starting with a heavy defeat at Presteigne, 50 shots to 77. However the visitors did have a winning rink, Phil Sharp skipping Joan Stokes, Alan Holloway and Robin Williams to a 16-15 victory after being ten shots down. Tony Stokes was unfortunate to lose by the same margin, losing the final end after being in front throughout.

Last Thursday evening the club hosted a very strong Llandrindod Wells side bristling with young international talent. Eardisland competed well before failing by two shots. Best rink was skip Jonathan Farndon, David Wallis, Jayne Sharp and Phil Milchard, who won 23 shots to 15. On Saturday afternoon Eardisland comfortably saw off the challenge of near neighbours Kingsland, winning on all four rinks. Best rink was skip Stan Hall, with Joan Stokes, Phil Lynne and David Wallis.

On Monday evening Eardisland hosted a strong Herefordshire President's team but won convincingly by 91shots to 64. Robin Williams recorded the best win of the night, skipping his rink of Joan Stokes, Doug Tantrum and Gill Williams to a 34-14 victory, whilst there was also a win for Phil Sharp.

Eardisland completed the double against Weobley on Thursday when they defeated them for the second time this season. With wins on all four rinks, Eardisland ran out winners by 87 shots to 58. The best rink was skipped by Jon Farndon, backed up by Wendy Powell,Tom Chandler and Phil Lynne. The rinks skipped by Dave Bray, Tony Stokes and Phil Sharp also recorded wins.

On Friday evening Eardisland Ladies scored a marvellous five shot win at Ross against the Ross A team in the Kington Shield, to progress to the next round. All the team, Gill Williams, Sheila Kruft, Joan Stokes, Jayne Sharp, Cheryl Morgan and Wendy Powell, were on the top of their game to shock the favoured home side.

PARISH COUNCIL - The next meeting will be in the village hall at 7.30pm today (Thursday).

CHARITY BARBECUE - There will be a barbecue on August 6, from 6.30-10pm in the attractive garden of Hardwick House, off the A44 near Pembridge, in aid of St Mary's church Eardisland appeal fund. There will be a two course meat and a bar. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Eardisland village band and DJ Phil Weaver. A prize draw will be held and the evening will be rounded off with a grand firework finale. A substantial barn and tents will provide cover should it rain.
