HAS Hereford’s street artist struck again? Or is it just a new way of getting rid of unwanted furniture?

Whatever it is, this table and chair – decorated with a white blanket, book and toothbrush – certainly caused a stir in Bobblestock, Hereford.

The furniture appeared on a grass verge next to Sandown Drive in the early hours of Friday, but it was not your average case of flytipping.

Labels tied to the blanket explained the items were a gift from the “love pirate”

while a note on the book read: “If I’m still here tomorrow, I’m yours to keep.”

Inside the book, which had its pages stuck together, were the words of Wordsworth: “Pleasure is spread through the earth in stray gifts to be claimed by whoever shall find.”

The reference to the poet hints at artistic lines and a possible link to those responsible for the guerrilla knitting on Folly Lane and the graffiti art on the derelict Sportsman pub on Widemarsh Common.

By Monday morning the furniture had gone – meaning the “love pirate” had got its wish.
