RAIN failed to dampen spirits at a special Big Lunch event in Kington.
A few June showers were not enough to stop more than 100 residents from enjoying a lunchtime picnic at the Crooked Well Meadow.
And in the afternoon an animal handling session and sports day also took place during a national campaign to bring communities together.
The arrival of the animals in particular created a real buzz, with visitors quickly crowding round to hold a boa constrictor, bearded dragons, chinchillas and tortoises.
Steve Hodges, Friends society chairman, said the event had brought all ages together and was a big success.
“Crooked well Meadow’s Big Lunch was made a reality largely thanks to a grant of £745 from Herefordshire Council’s Community Pride Scheme,” he said.
“Attendees - people and animals - were particularly glad that part of the money had been spent on a marquee which helped to shelter people from the showers.”
Monies raised on the day will go towards staging future events, details of which can be found by clicking the link below.
