A GRAIN silo next to a college near Hereford has been demolished just days before a crucial planning meeting.
Bosses at Herefordshire College of Technology (HCT) arranged the demolition of the silo at their Holme Lacy Campus.
A January 17 condition survey found the silo was in poor condition and with cracks, missing concrete and collapsed beams.
Demolition started on Thursday (Feb 17) after a notification was approved by Herefordshire Council a week before.
The move comes shortly before a February 23 meeting where councillors will decide on a £25million plan to rebuild the campus.
The silo lies next to Bower House, an unlisted Georgian farmhouse which villagers are fighting to save from demolition.
HCT said the silo had the potential to rapidly deteriorate and insist no further demolition is expected in the medium term.
