A FAMILY has chosen to mark one poignant anniversary by raising money in honour of another this month.

The Hay-on-Wye Forget Me Not Walk will take place on what would have been Seren Lynda-Rose Williams’ 14th birthday.

It also comes 50 years after the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity (formerly Leukaemia Research) started looking into how blood cancers can be cured.

Martyn and Caroline Williams, Seren’s parents, are determined to raise as much money as they can on Saturday, almost 10 years after their daughter lost her battle with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

“Seren's death was particularly hard for our son - they were very close and he was old enough to understand what was going on,” Martyn explained.

“You never get over it, you learn to live with it and take each day as it goes,” the lorry driver added.

The couple, from Llanigon, and their surviving children Elisha, 15 and Robert, 18, are now urging others to join them on a leisurely 10-mile stroll around some of the area’s beauty spots from 10am onwards before returning to Summerhill Golf Club for refreshments.

Adults are asked to donate £7.50 in exhange for a t-shirt and medal, while children can enter for £5 and families of four for £20.

"Research is so important and if the money from the walk can help to save even one life then it'll be worth it,"

Martyn added.

"It will be an emotional day for us all but we want to remember Seren through a morning of fun.

“We'd love everyone to come and join us to enjoy a laugh and what should be a great walk - dogs and kids are more than welcome too."
