HEREFORDSHIRE man Gary Bluett is to cycle from Letton to London to raise money for his local church and a cancer charity.
Gary said the idea came from a parish meeting where it was also decided that half the funds would go to the Prostate Cancer Charity.
"There is a push to raise the profile of prostate cancer at the moment, so we thought we would help," he said.
"The Prostate Cancer Charity has been brilliant, really supportive and provided me with some T-shirts."
The other beneficiary of Gary's cycle, which is being planned for May 25 to 28, is his local church, St John the Baptist in Letton. Although the congregation only averages seven, the church, which was founded sometime in the first millennium, is becoming an important centre for village life and costs about £3,500 a year to run.
Gary will be cycling solo, with no support team, from the church in Letton to Westminster Abbey in London.
He expects the trip to take him four days, doing about 50 miles a day.
"I'm up to 30 miles at a time," said Gary when asked about his training.
"But the weather is keeping me to the exercise bike a lot of the time."
