Pewsey Vale 2 Ross Town 2

ANDY Sherlock's second goal of the match, with only seconds remaining, earned Ross a deserved GLS Hellenic League Division 1 West point.

After Sherlock had provided a couple of dangerous moments in the opening phases, Pewsey took the lead from their first attack of the game.

With goalkeeper Martin Murphy - only playing because Tom Whittaker strained a groin in the warm-up - and defender Glenn Capewell leaving a long ball to each other, a Pewsey player nipped in and crossed for a home striker to fire home, despite appearing to be in an offside position.

Ross responded positively and early in the second period, skipper Spud Jenkins sent Sherlock racing into the area where he was brought down by the goalkeeper as he attempted to round him.

A penalty was awarded but, surprisingly, the goalkeeper, who had denied a goalscoring opportunity, was not even cautioned, let alone sent off.

Sherlock slotted home the penalty but Vale regained the lead 15 minutes from time.

With time running out, Tom Phillips won a corner, from which Sherlock turned the ball into the net off his knee to earn a well-merited draw.
