THE Welsh Assembly member for Mid and West Wales believes the current system of dealing with asylum-seekers is letting the country down.
Speaking in Brecon, Nick Bourne said the backlog of people waiting to have cases determined stood at 103,000 and the Government had allowed 15,000 asylum-seekers to stay, regardless of the merits of their claims.
Reception centres
Mr Bourne, who is the leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly, said: "A Conservative government would have national reception centres where all asylum-seekers would stay until their cases are decided.
"The experience of our European neighbours suggests that such a policy will have a significant deterrent effect on those thinking of travelling to Britain without a well-founded case.
"The current system is not working and I do have concerns that the system of dispersal being practised by the Government is making things worse."
