HEREFORDSHIRE lost a county friendly match against Somerset by 11 shots on one of Burnham-on-Sea's wettest days.

In fact the rink of Ray Walker played only 20 ends because the green had become flooded.

They were Hereford-shire's best rink of the day, winning 22-16, but they had lost their last four ends before the heavy rain stopped the game.

The other winning rink was skipped by Derek Waters who won 24-19, despite dropping a five on the 12th end.

The strangest game of the day was skipped by Jack Gray. After 10 ends they were down 1-17 and by the 15th were still down 4-25. The conditions were getting worse but this brought the best out of the Herefordshire rink when they won the last five ends to finish with a creditable 17-26 defeat.

Another unusual game was played by the rink of John Beaven who won 12 ends, including picking up a four on the last end, but still went down 21-26. Unfortunately they dropped two threes, three fours and a five.

On the 16th end the rink of David Holloway looked like they might finish with a win when they led 18-13. But they then dropped a two and four to go one behind. On the last end they dropped a two and lost by one.
