SCHOOL - Almeley Primary School took advantage of the free tickets for schools for the Millennium Dome recently. It was an unforgettable day for the pupils and very fitting as the year 2000 is their 150th anniversary year. This term, the pupils have visited the Centre for Visual Arts in Cardiff, had a visit from the About Face Theatre Group - a wonderful experience and highly recommended, and have been on a Bush Craft team-building day with Ken Hames. At half-term, the pupils from Year 2 upwards went to the Hay Festival where they met the authors whose books they have been reading - Jacqueline Wilson was a huge success. All Key Stage 2 children gained awards in cricket and rounders skills. They have all taken part in a Sports Council tennis-coaching course and every child achieved a swimming award. The children are now, after an Ofsted inspection and HMI inspection of numeracy, preparing for the end of term, the highlight of which will be the 150th birthday party. Other planned events include a family outing to West Midland Safari Park, school sports and the end-of-term play, 'Mary Poppins', which takes place on July 19 in the village hall at 6.30pm.
