Fromes Hill and Brewery fought out a hectic six goal battle in the highest score of the day in the Malvern Football League last Sunday.

The last meeting between these two sides was in the Sunday Senior Cup when the result was decided in favour of Fromes Hill, 8-7 on penalties in another epic encounter.

The home side, enjoying their new base at Bishops Frome, made early inroads into the Brewery defence and had chances to take a first half lead. However, they lacked the finishing touch and Brewery scored twice in the last five minutes of the first half.

Gary Locke slotted in the first from close range as confusion reigned in the Fromes Hill defence and minutes later, from a corner, Terry Bramley's effort from just outside the penalty area somehow went through five defenders and the keeper for a 2-0 interval lead.

Shaun Taylor entered the fray for Fromes Hill in the opening minutes of the second period and he instantly reduced the deficit as he ran from the half way line, skipped past two defenders and slotted the ball past Mick Haron in the Brewery goal.

The scores were level in the 65th minute when Darren Smith scored from the penalty spot after a foul inside the area, then the pendulum swung full circle as Fromes Hill then took the lead, thanks to a close range James Howard effort.

Brewery weren't finished and they continued to dominate a fair possession of the ball. Their possession during a ten minute spell allowed them to equalise on 77 minutes thanks to Matthew Panter, then only an instinctive save from Gary Cheshire in the Fromes Hill goal denied Owen Meale from adding another with 10 minutes remaining. The game finished 3-3 with no changes in League positions.

Kempsey United however took advantage of Club AC 30's game against Callow End Harriers being postponed to leap frog into second place after their 3-1 win away at sixth-placed Talbot Head.

Steven Frear opened the scoring for Kempsey United followed by a Stuart Stanton effort before the interval to give the away side a two-goal cushion.

John Patterson managed to pull a goal back for the home side to give them a hope of causing an upset. However, in the final third of the game, an uncharacteristic defensive error allowed Steven Frear to record his second of the game, Kempsey United's third and the three points to see them move into second place.

League leaders Bull Allstars continue to remain unbeaten in the division as they triumphed 4-1 at home to Morgan Aero 8. Jamie James top scored with a brace, along with goals from Jamie Gladwin and Chris Stone they secured a further three points.

Richard Bird was on target for the visitors Morgan Aero 8 who seemed to have settled for a credible fifth position in the table.

This Sunday, in a full schedule, Bull Allstars will compete against second-placed Kempsey United in what should be an interesting encounter, Fromes Hill travel to third placed Club AC 30, Bell Inn 98 return to action away at Old Bush Willie Thornes, Talbot Head host Brewery and Morgan Aero 8 play Callow End Harriers.

Malvern Town and Welland return to the Malvern and Bromsgrove Cup ties with Welland at home to Bromsgrove Town and Malvern Town visiting Church Hill United.
