REBECCA Farnham, Herefordshire winner, took part in the national finals for the St. John Ambulance Cadet of the Year competition in Oxford.
Rebecca, 17, a Leominster Cadet, competed against 42 other cadets from across the country. She was pipped at the post by Karen Keable, of Devon.
All finalists will meet with Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace in March.
The competition took place at Eynsham Hall, Oxfordshire where cadets were put through their paces to test team working, organisational and communication skills.
