FORMER Hereford United winger Brian Evans has died after a short battle with cancer.

The 60-year-old is the only Bulls' player to gain full international honours when he represented Wales in Poland in September 1973.

He won seven caps in total but just the one while he was at Edgar Street.

Evans began his career at Swansea City, moving to the Vetch Field in 1963 and in his first season was part of the squad that reached the FA Cup semi-final, playing in every game through to the 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Injury ruled him out of the 2-1 semi-final defeat to Preston North End but he enjoyed more FA Cup success after his move to Edgar Street.

This was in the summer of 1973 when United manager Colin Addison persuaded him to join the club for their first season in Division Three.

He was part of the FA Cup giant-killing side that knocked West Ham United out at the third round stage in 1973/74.

Evans made 58 appearances for the Bulls from 1973 to 1975, scoring 11 goals before retiring to Swansea where he ran a successful painting and decorating business.
