GRAHAM Turner admits he is desperate to boost Hereford United's squad numbers to sustain their recent good run of form in the Nationwide Conference.

A knee operation has deprived him of Matt Clarke for six weeks while Scott Voice's move to Hinckley United has reduced numbers even further.

Danny Williams and Kevin Gwillam, who has featured in the reserves, are both suspended for next Saturday's clash with Gravesend and Northfleet at Edgar Street, leaving Turner keen to bolster his squad.

"We need some experience and to strengthen the squad urgently," admitted Turner.

"If Voice goes we are down to 15 so we need to bolster the squad with a player or two."

Versatile defender Richard Teesdale is set to be one player to benefit through Clarke's absence and he is relishing his unexpected first-team opportunities at Edgar Street.

The 20-year-old former Walsall stopper is set for a run in the side while regular right-back Matt Clarke recovers from knee surgery and he is happy to be involved at all.

"I didn't expect to have made the number of starts I have already done," he said.

"Now we're playing four in defence it means one less spot for a central defender, but with the possibility of injuries and suspensions you have to be geared up to do your best when called on. When I get the chance I always aim to give 100 per cent and I think the manager has noticed that."

Teesdale was due to be involved in today's FA Trophy tie of the third round at the weekend against holders and Nationwide Conference leaders Yeovil Town. To date he has made seven starts with five substitute appearances.

Meanwhile ex-Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty is putting his weight behind Hereford's annual fundraising dinner. He will be the principal speaker at United's dinner at The Three Counties Hotel on Thursday, February 6. Tickets, priced £30, are available from the club offices in Blackfriars Street or by calling 01432 276666.
