More transparency needed for cross border services

CALLS have been made for more transparency in the way health services run either side of the Welsh border.

A Welsh Affairs Committee report found regular meetings between the UK and Welsh Assembly government have improved cross-border services but a need to raise awareness of the differences people can expect on either side remains.

Criticisms were also made regarding who takes responsibility for trunk roads that lead from one country to the other and also recent research proposals for higher education that referred only to England as a nation.

Committee chairman Dr Hywel Francis MP said: “The relevant UK government departments must address our concerns and take action to ensure people crossing the Welsh-English border do not receive a lower level of service."
