A 15-BAY golf driving range complete with a video room, cafe and shop could be built inside Hereford Racecourse.

Plans have been submitted by Halo Leisure to build the range on the site of the current practice area at Hereford Municipal Golf Course.

The enclosed area will have a 10-metre high fence around it with plans for a new access route across the racecourse, which borders the land.

Alex Haines, centre manager at the Halo-owned Hereford Leisure Centre, said the group was “keen to develop golf within the city”.

Racecourse bosses say they are aware of the plans but do not believe spectators watching horse races will have their view hampered.

A decision on whether the plan can go ahead is likely to be made within four to five weeks.
