Hereford level crossing crash woman dies

Level crossing car smash woman dies Level crossing car smash woman dies

A WOMAN has died after a train smashed into two cars at a level crossing.

As we reported earlier today, the 50-year-old was airlifted to Hereford County Hospital following the crash at 10.30am at a level crossing near the village of Moreton-on-Lugg.

The woman's husband was treated for pelvic and shoulder injuries at the scene, and two other people, a mother and daughter from the second car, made their own way to hospital having suffered minor injuries.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We also attended the train driver, the signal operator and passengers on-board the train, none of whom were injured."

Despite undergoing major surgery the woman died later in the day.

An investigation is now underway involving British Transport Police, West Mercia Police and Network Rail. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has also been notified.

The track is understood to still be closed while inquiries continue. For further updates please click here.

It is still not know how the vehicles came to be on the track, as the crossing uses both barriers and warning lights.

• Please leave your tributes to the woman below.

I feel very sorry for everyone involved my dad was at the seen and said that there was a problem with the signalling and the barriers weren't down nor the lights warning people about this train approaching the crossing in my opinion i think that the signals should be more carefully checked to prevent disasters like this ever happening again.

My thoughts go out to the family and friends.
I use this route often, and has never had a problem, there signage, barriers, Signals, its also manned. Also looking at the photo the car must of been clipped as it is facing the wrond direction. It was closed about oct / nov for maintence. As reported above there could of been a number of things gone wrong. With investigations under way time will tell to see what went wrong.
