FIREFIGHTERS spent last night battling a fire at a Kentchurch farm.

A number of crews from across the county were called to Castlefield Farm just after 5.05pm.

John Chance, watch manager at Ewyas Harold Fire Station, said that blizzard like conditions caused some overhead cables to come down, which set fire to some straw bales.

"There were some cattle in a shed near to the fire, so our main priority was to stop it spreading to the building, which we were able to do," said Mr Chance.

"The cattle were not affected and there was no damaged caused to the shed.

"The crews did ver well considering the atrocious conditions."

Firefighters eventually managed to put out the fire at around 2am this morning.
