TWO furry little animals have given a Herefordshire youngster an early Christmas present.
Eight-year-old Caitlin Robinson was overjoyed to hear that her guinea pigs Bumble and George came out on top in this year’s Hereford Times Pet Idol competition.
The animal-loving Our Lady’s Primary School pupil has even decided to donate half of her £100 prize to the Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue Centre.
“Caitlin was ever so excited to hear that she had won,”
said her mum Colette Evans.
“She loves animals and one of our neighbours’ dogs came from a rescue centre, so she thought that it would be nice to give half of the money to them.”
Hundreds of people entered this year’s competition, with entries ranging from dogs to cats and budgies.
Last Christmas, George had to have an eye removed because he had an ulcer in it, but he is now back on the mend and a picture of him playing around in a tractor and trailer with Bumble clearly tugged at readers’ heartstrings.
“They like to happily play around now and again and they seem to like toys,” said Miss Robinson.
As well as £100 worth of vouchers, Caitlin also receives a Hereford Times silver salver.
Other winners were: Sarah Mifflin, from Credenhill, who won the dogs category with Flopsy; Karen Rodrigues, from Peterchurch, who came out on top in the cats category with Henry; Dylan Sockett, who won the birds section with Worzel; and Samantha Massey, from Clehonger, whose pet Caz won the horse category. They all receive £50 worth of vouchers.
