FESTIVE spirits in Kington have been dampened by news that the town’s Christmas lights could potentially come down just days after they went up.
Staff at Herefordshire Council and contractors from Amey Plc were brought in after the decorations failed to meet safety regulations.
Highway network manager Clive Hall said while it was important, both for businesses and shoppers, for Kington to maintain its festive atmosphere an inspection had found the lights to be unsafe.
“We will not risk the safety of the general public by allowing them to stay as they are and will be doing all we can to ensure they are safely installed and shining brightly as soon as possible,” he added.
Town traders are now working closely with the local authority to ensure they are made safe enough to stay after they were switched on last weekend.
