ROSS-on-Wye swimming pool is to close for more than six weeks so that essential maintenance work can be carried out.
Major repairs are needed to the pool’s deep end and its depth will be reduced from three metres to two metres. The energy bill will therefore be cut by between £5,000 and £7,000, in line with the Government’s targets for carbon reduction.
Centre manager Matt Smith said: “While we understand and apologise for the inconvenience for our swimmers, we trust they will look forward to returning to use the pool in January. The money we will save by making these improvements can be spent wisely elsewhere, ensuring our customers continue to have access to excellent facilities.
“The Fitness Suite, changing rooms and sunbed will still be fully operational and on top of this we have our new group exercise class programme for people to get involved in.
“If our regular swimmers still wish to get in the pool they can use our facilities at Ledbury, Hereford and Leominster.” The swimming pool was awarded an “excellent” status in a 2008 Quest assessment, which measured the quality of its facilities, putting it in the top one per cent of centres in the country.
There has also been an increase in memberships in recent months, following refurbishment of the changing rooms and the introduction of the group exercise classes.
The pool will be shut from December 9 and is due to be re-opened on January 23.
