A HEREFORDSHIRE estate has taken a step back to its former glory thanks to employees of Amey.
More than 50 trees have been planted at the Weir Estate in Swainshill after Amey employees marked World Environment Day by making pledges to change their environmental behaviour.
Amey offered to donate a tree for every pledge made and with the help of the National Trust, the Weir Garden was found to be the perfect site to plant them.
Walking to work, installing water butts, growing vegetables and changing to energy saving light bulbs are examples of the pledges made.
Employees met David Hughes, a National Trust property manager, for a morning of tree planting.
Mark Thomas, Amey’s service director for Herefordshire, said: “By working with the National Trust in its quest to restore the Weir Garden, we are providing local people with somewhere they can enjoy for many years to come.”
The planting of the English oaks is part of a scheme to restore the estate to its 19th century glory, using the first edition OS map of 1887, which mapped individual trees within the parkland.
