THE head of West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) wants more money from NHS Herefordshire to make recommended improvements happen.

WMAS chief executive Anthony Marsh described his service as the worst funded in Britain and performing “near miracles” with the resources and staff it currently has.

Andy Kibble, Herefordshire secretary for UNISON, which represents ambulance and paramedic crews, said the problem was known.

“We understand we have shortcomings, we’ve identified where problems are and are working as hard as we can to rectify them. Staff at all levels have been working flat out since December to deal with the increase in emergency calls, the bad weather and the closure of the control centre at Bransford,” said Mr Kibble.
