LEOMINSTER MP Bill Wiggin has been nominated for an animal welfare award.

Mr Wiggin is in the running for the ePolitix Animal Welfare Charity Champion Award after recieving nominations from the RSPCA and the Pet Care Trust.

“Animal welfare is a very important issue and people throughout the country care very passionately about the animals that they look after,” he said.

“We have the highest animal welfare standards for farm and domestic animals anywhere in the world and I will continue to campaign to maintain and improve these.”

In its nomination, the Pet Care Trust said: “As well as campaigning in Parliament, Bill is the only MP who regularly engages with stakeholder groups and organisations to discuss animal welfare issues and policies.

“He would be a most worthy winner of (the) award in this category.”
