BAMBOO shoots and a garden shelter which featured at the Chelsea Flower Show have been introduced into a Hereford garden.

They were donated to help complete a very special sensory feature in the grounds of No 1 Ledbury Road, which provides respite care and short breaks for children and young people with disability.

The garden was opened by Mollie Beaumont and is called the Sam Beaumont Memorial Garden after the Hereford solicitor, Mayor and councillor who died in 1991.

Mr Beaumont, a household name in Herefordshire for more than 30 years, formed the Beaumont Trust, which funded a very generous donation to make the garden possible.

The Ledbury Road hospital is run by Herefordshire Primary Care Trust and is supported by a charity called Children at Number 1.

It was this charity that commissioned the garden, which was designed and built by Christian Dowle, of Garden Inspiration Ltd.

It is a major new asset for both staff and children and contains items to stimulate all senses, including water features, plants that stimulate the senses of sight, sound, touch, smell and taste, paths embodying rumble strips and the bamboo plants and shelter from the Chelsea Flower Show.
