HEART OF ENGLAND IN BLOOM – Judging will take place in Eardisland on Thursday, July 17.

BOWLS – Last Friday Eardisland travelled the short distance to Kingsland in the Hereford Times cup and stunned the home side with a narrow five-shot victory, 55 to 50, winning two of the three rinks. The match was always on a knife edge with Eardisland nudging ahead in the latter stages to advance to the county semi finals against a side fielding several county players. Best rink went to skip Robin Williams playing with Alan Rudland, Tom Chandler and Stan Hall, whilst Phil Shap’s rink battled to a one-shot victory. Eardisland will be at home to either Ledbury or Ross in the last four. On Wednesday, Eardisland played host to Presteigne and won by just seven shots against spirited visitors. Best rink was Phil Sharp skipping Gill Williams, John Moses and on his debut, Doug Tantrum. Mavis Tantrum made it a husband-and-wife debut double celebration by also playing well on a winning rink. A fine week ended with another home success on Saturday against Wellington who found it tough reverting to grass from their normal artificial surface. Winning skips were Phil Sharp, Tony Stokes and Stan Hall, with the remarkable Harry Davies playing superbly on his 88th birthday. Contact for the bowls club is Phil Milchard on 01544 388097.
