SERVICES including waste collection and recycling will not be affected by the current fuel dispute.

That is the message from Herefordshire Council, which says it has ensured ‘sufficient supplies’ to continue with its services until the tanker drivers strike ends on Tuesday.

The Council added that the risk to fuel supplies in the county is low, with drivers advised to fill-up as normal.

Michael Hainge, director of environment and culture at Herefordshire Council, said: “There are no problems at this time.

"However, contingency plans are in place to ensure that all agencies can deliver essential services should there be a problem with fuel supplies.”

Everything will be fine if people do not start filling up their tanks just for the sake of it. The manager of my local filling station told me that he does get a fewer older people coming back more than once a day, in different cars, keeping them topped up to the maximum. This exacerbates any problems.
