Attacker is sent on an anger management course

AN attacker who smashed a beer glass into another man's face then battered his bleeding victim with punches and kicks must attend an anger management course.

Worcester Crown Court head how Nathan Strong struck out at the victim in a Hereford bar because the man was "having a go at him".

Strong, aged 31, of Lloyd Street, Portfields, Hereford, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. He was given a 12-month suspended prison sentence, 100 hours of community service, a 12-month supervision order and put on the anger management course.

The court heard that hard working Strong had problems controlling his anger and wanted to change.

Peter Tooke, prosecuting, said Strong seemed to be talking normally with his victim in Manhattan's nightspot earlier this year when he suddenly struck the man over the left eye with a beer glass.

As the resulting wound began bleeding, Strong threw punches at the victim and started kicking him.

Questioned by police, Strong said he hit out with the glass because the victim had been "having a go at him" from the minute they met.

He also told the officers he had a "very bad" temper and anger management issues.

Simon Rippon, defending, said Strong was sorry over what happened and wanted to change. As a hard-working man, Strong felt a lack of control over his anger was holding up his life, said Mr Rippon.
