YOUNGSTERS in Leominster have been getting to grips with a new piece of school equipment. A climbing wall was installed at Leominster Junior School with the help of funding from local businesses.

The idea for a climbing wall came from headteacher Rhodri Richards, who had known them to be successful at other schools and was aware that pupils often took on a similar challenge during resdential trips to Redridge, in Powys.

The school wrote letters to a host of businesses asking for sponsorship and had soon hit their £1,500 target thanks to donations from BPI plastics, Lugg Valley and a number of estate agents and engineers in and around Leominster.

A special plaque was erected as a thank you to everyone who gave money to the cause.

Sandra Beaumont-Pike, for the school, said the wall had already proved popular with pupils, and was a perfect addition to the playground as it took up no extra room.

“We still have loads of walls free so I don’t know what the next project is going to be,” she added.
