CHILDREN at a north Herefordshire school have been learning to paint in the style of three of world’s most famous artists.

Youngsters at Orleton Primary School produced work in the style of Picasso, Van Gogh and Monet after spending three days with Luston-based painter Filbert Splosh.

The school was able to book the sessions thanks to parents Carla Hollins and Nicola Edwards, who ran stalls at Orleton’s Christmas Bazaar and raised £610 and £525 respectively.

The two mothers then applied to Barclays bank for ‘pound for pound’ funding as part of the Barclays Community Investment Programme.

In the spring their total was matched by the bank, allowing Orleton to book the sessions with Filbert.

“When you see paintings like these and hear children talking knowledgeably about artists like Picasso, it makes all the fundraising worthwhile,” said Nicola.

“We’re very grateful to Barclays for their generosity,” she added.
