ST ANDREW’S CHURCH - Stanley Yapp may have been surprised to see the church pews packed with familiar faces last Sunday but not as surprised as he was at the end of the service when Rev Pauline Rees presented him, on behalf of the PCC, with a framed print of Peter Manders’ recently published painting of Leysters Church. The presentation was in recognition of his 50 years’ service on the PCC and for his unswerving dedication to St Andrew’s Church. Stanley became assistant treasurer to Col Ingleby in about 1961; he was elected Sidesman in 1963. In 1968, Stanley was elected treasurer, a post he held for 20 years. In 1973, he was elected people’s warden in succession to his father who had held the position for 17 years. Stanley, also known as ‘the ambassador for mistletoe’, sends bunches from his farm in Tenbury to clients all over the world. At 74 years old, Stanley knows of no retirement and continues to work his stock farm.
