Coroner rules that death was accidental

A PENSIONER died after surgeons repairing a fracture in her leg discovered a massive blood clot.

Gladys Lambrick, 86, was admitted to Hereford County Hospital after a number of falls.

Medics discovered a pulmonary embolism and shortened the operation for further treatment but Mrs Lambrick also had a thrombosis in her left leg and died on May 9 last year.

The Hereford inquest was told that Mrs Lambrick, from Slough in Berkshire, was suffering from a vascular disease which made her paranoid and may also have left her dizzy and unstable.

She was referred to Hereford's Stonebow unit.

Summing up at the Hereford inquest, coroner David Halpern said Mrs Lambrick died from a massive pulmonary embolism with contributing causes of a deep vein thrombosis and a fractured femur.

Mr Halpern said he was satisfied the medical attention she received was acceptable and recorded a verdict of accidental death.
