Lorry fire on the M50

A LORRY carrying chemicals caught fire on the M50 on Sunday afternoon (16/03/08).

The lorry was travelling on the westbound carriageway between junction three and four.

Fire crews from Hereford, Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye attended the scene just after 3pm.

The road was closed and police enforced a diversion.

The fire started in the engine part of the vehicle and firefighters spent three and a half hours extinguishing the fire and clearing up chemicals.

Health and safety officials, the Environment Agency and the Highways Agency were also at the scene.
