A BROMYARD man has launched a petition over a 63% council tax rise.
Resident Mark Harper is challenging Bromyard Town Council's decision to raise its precept by £76,000.
The increase was ratified at a meeting last month and will cover a bid for the Rowberry Street office and car park off Herefordshire Council.
But Mr Harper - who has started an email petition at mark.harper10@virgin.net in objection - believes the council went against public opinion.
He said: "It is now my intention to raise the matter with the government.
"The land was also purchased with unrestricted development rights for the town council to build, should the project fail."
The 63% precept rise - the town council's part of the council tax bill - will add £50 to the average household bill.
