WAR and warfare may change but the qualities that make British servicemen and women great are unchanging.
That's why people throughout the county are being encouraged to mark July 19 in their diaries to turn out and honour them.
On that date, Hereford City Council plans to extend the Freedom of the City to The Rifles, the successors of The Light Infantry. The occasion will also witness the Colours of the old 3rd Battalion Light Infantry being laid up' in the Town Hall.
A parade on Castle Green is planned in addition to the usual Sounding Retreat' ceremony and the The Rifles will exercise their right' of a march past to celebrate their Freedom.
Major James Hereford, the County Colonel of The Rifles, announced the plans as President of Herefordshire County Royal British legion at their annual conference last Saturday.
The conference also marked the retirement of the Rev Jimmy Morrison as county chaplain.
