A CIVIC minded ten year old has been praised by his community for clearing up litter in his area before the England semi-final.

Ten year old Corey Delahay chose to spend time before the England game clearing litter in and around his street in Redhill, Hereford.

He returned home to his mum Sarah Andrews, with a full carrier bag of litter and then headed to Mayberry Avenue park to clean it up.

His mum Sarah Andrews: “He did it of his own accord. He came in from school and found the litter picker, got a carrier and said he was going to clean the grass area outside before the football.”

She added: “He is very aware of and concerned about the litter in the park and shop area as the bins are not always used.

“He said one in the park is broken too. Dog fouling is also an issue and he watches where he walks. He thinks signs may help, along with more bins.”

Corey’s efforts were appreciated by neighbour Pete Grove, who gave the Marlbrook Primary School pupil a cake for his efforts in helping the community.

Corey's work was praised on social media.

Carol Teasdale wrote on Facebook: "Wonderful Corey, there are lots of little people in Hereford who don't get recognised for their community work."

Councillor Paul Rone added: "Well done Corey, have pride in where you live mate. Top lad.”

Corey came home with the Child of the Week badge from school for his part in the community.
