A TEENAGER with a rare nerve disorder is going to have to undergo an amputation above her knee.

Megan Jordan, 18, was diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) two years ago which is a poorly understood condition in which a person experiences persistent severe and debilitating pain.

The pain started in her foot, which is so painful it cannot be touched, and has spread up her left leg to her knee and also to her waterworks.

Megan, from Leominster, said: "It can spread to your internal organs. It is the most painful condition known to man. It is a lot more painful than childbirth and terminal cancer. It is that rare that many doctors do not even know about it. There is no funding for research."

She has been experiencing the pain for almost four years but doctors initially thought it was arthritis.

Megan was in a car crash in October 2014 on the road from Leominster to Ludlow. She sustained a spinal injury which triggered her symptoms.

Megan said: "I am on a lot of opiate drugs. They just make it bearable. There is no cure. There is no treatment.

"The sooner you catch CRPS the sooner they diagnose it, the sooner they are able to reserve it or retain it.

"With me they couldn't retain it in the foot. It went into my knee and my waterworks."

She will soon start psychological therapy to prepare for the amputation in around 18 months time.

Her mum Vicky Douglas and friend Sammi Jones have arranged an event to raise money for a specialised wheelchair for Megan following her amputation.

The free event is on Saturday, May 12 from 7pm to midnight at the Lion Ballroom in Broad Street, Leominster. Mervyn Mahoney from the White Lion pub paid for the venue, bar, buffet and DJ.

There will be a raffle with lots of prizes donated by local businesses. It is £5 a strip or £1 a ticket from Aladdin's in Leominster or on the night.

Vicky is also going to swim a mile at Leominster Halo on the same day, as are friends Lauren Ware and Teenie Morgan. Two Santander employees are also taking part and swimming the mile between them.

Half of the money raised will go to a new wheelchair and half will go to Burning Nights, a CRPS support group.
