THE Hereford Rail Male Voice Choir is holding its Annual Concert on Saturday, May 19 at 7.30pm, at Holy Trinity Church, Whitecross Road, Hereford.

Back by popular demand, Dick Brice has agreed to be guest artist at the annual concert. He last performed with the choir in 2015 and was a great hit with the Hereford audience. His relaxed humour and songs blend well with the rail choir repertoire.

Dick was brought up in the Forest of Dean where he sang with a well known folk group The Farriers. He is best known for his solo recording Forest Talk, Few on his Own and Out of the Wood a song from which, Land Between Two Rivers' was used in the BBC Radio 4 adaptation of Dennis Potters book The Changing Forest.

He has twice appeared at the City of London Festival and at the Edinburgh Festival and has developed a wonderful reputation for his humour and his songs.

Dick still lives some four miles from Ross-on-Wye with his wife, where Dick was a primary school teacher for 25 years before leaving teaching to pursue his performing career and his love of sailing.

The rail choir has had another extremely busy year under the leadership of Derek Gough, with concerts and performances throughout the county and beyond. They have been continued to provide Hereford High Town entertainment for BID Hereford in Hereford in both summer and Christmas performances. They have entertained audiences in Shobdon, Weobley, Sutton, Shrewsbury and Hereford. A highlight of the season was the Border Voices Concert in The Courtyard Theatre last October alongside The Talgarth and Newport choirs.

All the concerts have been very well received and the audiences have commented on the quality and precision of the singing.

The Annual Concert always provides the showcase of new material that the choir has learnt through the year. Currently the choir is working on the Simon & Garfunkel hit Bridge Over Troubled Waters arranged by Alan Simmons as well as reviving old favourites like Dashenka, Wandering Star and several others.

The choir continues to be led by its musical director Derek Gough, assisted by its two accompanists Cath Evans and Sandra Gale.

The concert proceeds are shared equally between the choir funds and Holy Trinity Church funds.

Admission will be £8 by ticket available from members of the choir or on the door on the night. For more details contact choir secretary Colin Archer on 01432 276911.
