A MAN has appeared in court charged with threatening to bomb 14 Tesco stores across the UK including two in Herefordshire.

Philip McHugh, from Clitheroe, Lancashire, appeared at Luton Crown Court on Friday where he spoke only to confirm his name.

The 51-year-old faces two charges of making bomb hoaxes and two blackmail offences.

Mr McHugh was remanded in custody and will appear at St Albans Crown Court on November 5.

Tesco stores in Ledbury and the Belmont area of Hereford were temporarily closed on Saturday, July 14 following the security alerts.

If this man is found guilty why not fine him the same amount as the business Tesco lost as a result of his actions and make him pay it back at a punitive level, say £500 a month, for the rest of his life?
