A MAN was led to safety by police officers on Greyfriars Bridge in Hereford yesterday evening.
Police were first called at around 10pm following concerns for a man in his late teens who was on the bridge where the A49 crosses the River Wye.
The bridge was closed to southbound traffic.
The man was led to safety by officers at around 10.45pm and the bridge was re-opened a short time later.
Writing on Twitter, the police said that officers were working alongside paramedics and firefighters.
Drivers were told to use the Old Bridge to cross the river.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses claimed to have seen fire crews taking the brigade's boat down towards the Rowing Club.
