A FUNDRAISING page has been created in support of a surgeon who was heavily fined for branding his initials on the organs of patients.

Simon Bramhall, 53, who used an argon beam machine to “write” his initials on the organs of two anaesthetised victims in February and August 2013 while working at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, was ordered to pay a £10,000 fine last month.

The consultant, who was working at Hereford County Hospital last year, admitted two counts of assault by beating after prosecutors accepted his not guilty pleas to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Judge Paul Farrer QC also ordered Bramhall to complete a 12-month community order with 120 hours of unpaid work.

Now a former patient has created a fundraising page in a bid to match Mr Bramhall's fine for charity and show their support for the surgeon.

Barbara Moss has created the 'Save Our Surgeon: Bring Back Simon Bramhall Appeal' to raise money for The British Liver Trust.

She said: "How can you ever repay someone who has saved your life? Or maybe it’s the life of someone very dear to you?

"And when that person is so gentle, kind and compassionate of your needs and passionate in his work, these are indeed rare qualities to find in a person. So many people are indebted to Surgeon Simon Bramhall.

"We are the patients, our families, together with friends and colleagues of Simon Bramhall.

"It is absolutely incredible to see us all together, realising how many of us would not be here if not for the brilliance of this man who has dedicated his life to his work.

"We want him to continue to do this for others; to save more lives.

"We are aiming to match Simon’s fine of £10,000 and donate this to his chosen charity: The British Liver Trust."

Ms Moss added: "This in no way conflicts with the fine that Simon pays himself.

"We are doing this because we wish to show Simon how much he is appreciated and how we feel about him.

"Two hundred and seventy of us wrote testimonies for Simon’s case and the judge read all of them. Simon has already saved us; we wish for him to continue in his career because he is a man of excellence and his talents should not be wasted.

"The judge himself said that Simon was, and still is, excellent and respected in his profession and this country needs him."

Over £1,300 has already been raised through the appeal page with several donators also leaving messages thanking Mr Bramhall for his work.
