A TOWN'S Royal British Legion would like to build a saluting platform for the annual Remembrance Day parade.

Ross-on-Wye's RBL spoke to the town council meeting on Monday night about plans to build a saluting dais on The Prospect.

It would be built into the wall on the same side as the Millennium gates. The branch would also like to put two flagpoles either side of the war memorial.

The dais, which is a raised platform, would be around two steps high and 12 metres in length, to allow for a ramp for disability access.

Branch chairman Graham Aplin said: "We are doing this, not for the Royal British Legion, but for the town. For the last five years at the Remembrance Day parade since we put up a PA system, a band, a bugler, the number on the prospect has quadrupled. It is a very important service."

Planning permission would be needed from Herefordshire Council.
