A MAN has died after becoming trapped beneath machinery in Pontrilas.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called on Wednesday at 11.15pm to reports of an industrial incident.

An ambulance, a paramedic officer and a BASICS emergency doctor were sent to the scene at Pontrilas Sawmills.

An ambulance spokesman said: “When ambulance staff arrived they found a man in cardiac arrest after he became trapped beneath a large piece of machinery.

“The man was quickly released and ambulance staff commenced advanced life support on scene. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene.”

The man was working at Pontrilas Sawmills when the incident happen.

A spokesman for the Pontrilas group said: “This incident is currently the subject of a joint police and HSE [Health and Safety Executive] investigation with which we are cooperating fully.  As such, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with our employee’s family along with his colleagues and friends.”
