A DRUNK man was found stumbling in traffic outside Hereford Police Station, magistrates heard.

Jason Wargen, 42, of Bath Street, Hereford, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

Kriss Ewing, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court last week said that at 9.45pm on November 24, police officers in the police station heard a disturbance outside.

"They looked out of the window and saw the defendant walking in and out of the traffic with his arms in the air, said Mrs Ewing.

"Vehicles were using their horns to try and get him out of the road. When police officers got to the front of the station they saw two men in the road trying to help the defendant to get out of the road.

"Wargen became agitated and attempted to step back into the oncoming traffic. He was clearly drunk and stumbling to the ground and struggled to get up and out of the carriageway. Officers had to help him onto the pavement such was the state he was in. There is a couple of similar matters on his record and it is a bit of a recurring theme."

Chris Read, mitigating, said that Wargen had been sent to prison in June for four months as a 'clearing exercise' of previous charges.

"At risk of stating the obvious Wargen has a drink problem," said Mr Read.

"He doesn't drink every day but is classified as a binge drinker. He was released from prison to difficult personal circumstances. He accepts as a results of the stress on this day he fell off the wagon and drank to excess. He was found on the road outside his accommodation.

"He was arrested for his own safety and after a few hours was released. Following his release he has continued with Addaction."

Magistrates ordered Wargen to pay a £100 fine, £135 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
