A BUTCHERS based in a village just over the Welsh border has been awarded for its meat hampers.

Golden Valley Meat and Game in Grosmont took home three awards at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.

They took first prize for their Fresh Welsh Christmas Meat Hamper.

And they took second prize for their Fresh Welsh Breakfast Meat Hamper suitable for a bumper breakfast

However, they also took Overall Champion of Welsh Meat Hampers with strong competition from the whole of Wales including Denbighshire, Flintshire, Powys, Gwynedd and Abertawe.

Under Adrian Walker’s management, Golden Valley Meat and Game has been serving the public, retail and catering industry for more than 30 years.

It is a family business in the grounds of the family home with a fully equipped butcher’s facility.

Mr Walker began his butchery career working as a Saturday boy on the front counter of a local butcher’s shop.

He attended Colchester Avenue College in Cardiff where he received his Institute of Meat membership and qualifications. At the age of 18 he was working as a senior butcher in a Hereford supermarket and by the age of 19 had started his own butchery business.
