CIDER produced by those involved in a county farm project has gone on sale in one of Hereford's independent bars.

The Houghton Project, based between Leominster and Hereford, provides opportunities for anyone who wants to take part in a variety of rural activities.

After spending some time refining cider-making skills, project members say they're now confident they've created a product – which is made from hand-picked apples from local orchards using pure apple juice – that people will enjoy.

And the Howton traditional medium sweet cider is now being stocked by the Shack Revolution, a popular cocktail bar and pizza restaurant in Hereford.

Jennifer Gibbon, from the Houghton Project, said: "Everyone who has helped and who has been involved in the production our end is really excited for this opportunity and for the future of our cider making.

"Cider making and selling a quality product offers the people we work with the opportunity to learn relevant local skills as well as retail experience."

The project specialises in supporting vulnerable adults and people with mental health problems.

Jennifer added: "The positive recognition it generates for vulnerable people increases self confidence and reduces social stigma. The revenue from sales helps to fund the valuable work that The Houghton Project does."

Other opportunities available through the project include looking after farm animals, growing vegetables, making cheese, milking goats, working in the woodland, outdoor cooking and carpentry.
